SFC unrivalled in Playground romp

After two disappointing losses, Singapore Football Club bounced back in imperious fashion with a 12-2 win over Playground Rivals FC, on Wednesday evening.

The last time these two teams met the final score finished 6-0. On this occasion Robert Eziakor, making his managerial debut for SFC, decided to go six better.

Fourteen goals is a lot to cover off with a deadline looming, so in summary...

There were hatricks for Liam Shotton, Mike Hemmingway and Rob Benson to ensure the SFC golden boot competition certainly hots up. Meanwhile Robert Eziakor bagged two goals for himself, as Player Manager on the night. SFC stalwart Jack Cullinane returned to scoring form too, as he also found the back of the net.

It was not all plain sailing for the Beauty Queens however. A sloppy start, consistent with a post work 9:15pm kick off, saw SFC initially go behind 1-0. Liam Shotton soon pulled one back to make it 1-1.

Rivals again pressed and within five minutes the score was 2-1 to Playground Rivals. Ten minutes played.

Eventually SFC settled down and their quality shone through. Rob Benson was a constant menace down the right flank and made it 2-2 before Mike Hemmingway and Liam Shotton also bolstered the scoreline. SFC 5 Playground Rivals 2, at the interval.

With limited options on the bench for Eziakor, he decided to rule out any changes at the second half. It was just as well, as the goals continued to rain down. Benson and Eziakor linked well to make it 6-2 and then 7-2. As the game wore on SFC continued to carve out chance after chance.

One could argue it should have been more as the Rivals woodwork received a peppering, on eight separate occasions, before the final scoreline settled at 12-2.

In addition to the scorers there were pleasing performance’s from debutants Nick Marsh out wide as well as local boy Nasri between the sticks.

Man of the Match went to Rob Benson for a flawless display.
