SFC fall TO FIRST DEFEAT AGAINST TIONG BAHRU’S “FABULOUS BAKER BOYS”

Tiong Bahru FC (TBFC) consigned Singapore Football Club(SFC) to their first defeat of 2019, on Saturday night at Hougang Stadium. SFC held their own for long stretches of the game, against the reigning NFL Champions, before eventually being rolled aside to lose 2-0.

Against such high calibre opposition, SFC Technical Director, Matt Hulen, made the most of the pre-season fixture, handing debuts to five new players. He also trialed multiple formations for SFC, during the course of the evening.

Going forwards SFC can be very happy with Rob Benson, who continues to show great promise; especially with another ninety minutes ensconced in his legs. Teenage debutant Jared Gallagher also displayed some deft touches and neat interplay, during the first half. Meanwhile, at the back, the exotic pairing of Akil Pompey and Collins Mbeutcha secured the defensive duo a shared man of the match award.

After the game, Hulen was also quick to address rumours of a falling out between himself and SFC midfield goal machine, John Norfolk. “John has got his head straight and seems in a great place these days. His support group is very happy with him; everyone at SFC feels he has a great season ahead of him. Let me make it very clear, we all love John.”

Glamour footballer Norfolk, 35, has had a strong pre-season, but has appeared unsettled in recent days. This is following reports that a Miami based MLS franchise was showing interest in signing English players. It remains unclear if Norfolk is actually one of Inter Miami’s Anglo-Saxon targets.

SFC wish our friends at Tiong Bahru FC every success in their last game of the season, as they chase back to back title successes, in Singapore’s National Football League Division 1.
