McCole hits purple patch, whilst others monkey around.

Singapore Football Club(SFC) walked away with all three points against Purple Monkeys FC, on Wednesday night, with a 4-2 win. SFC’s Scottish hotshot, Matt McCole, paved the way with a first half brace to take his goal tally to three goals in just ninety minutes of football.

It was not as plain sailing as the scoreline night suggest however, with SFC exposed on a number of occasions. Ethan Endacott coming to SFC’s rescue numerous times, with some fine saves.

In the first half, the return of mercurial midfielder, DJ Dashnyam provided a new creative verve to SFC’s attacks. Dashnyam linking well with the uber-coiffured Ross Plain during the opening exchanges. A neat finish from French-Mongolian himself broke the deadlock, to make it 1-0.

Shortly afterwards Matt McCole scored his first of the evening (2-0), just before the two Scotsmen combined well for Club Captain, Andrew Hutcheon, to pounce and make it 3-0. A threatening through ball from McCole, saw the Purple Monkey’s defence hesitate, allowing Hutcheon to slot the ball calmly through the onrushing keeper’s legs.

The first half eventually finished with SFC 4-0 ahead. McCole registering again; this time rifling a thunderous shot in to the roof of the Purple Monkey’s net.

The second half again saw a sea of changes, as part of SFC’s continuing preparations for the rapidly approaching season. Some of those tactical alterations appeared to unsettle the SFC backline with uncharacteristic mistakes creeping in. This allowed Monkeys to pull two goals back, including a well executed free kick by Harry Shaw.

Final score 4-2. The Man of the Match award went to Matt McCole for a great first half, and two very well executed goals.

Thank you to Purple Monkeys for a competitive game. All eyes now turn to SFC Saturday’s fixture, against Gaelic Lions, in the COSMO League curtain raiser.
